the -room
is a music venture promoting live music
based on the format of "Later with Jools Holland"

each month we feature four live acts
plus guest acts and vocalists
on four indiviually sound & lite stages

the night comprises three, forty five minute sets
each featuring all acts & guests

the-room now enters its second year
following on from the huge success from last year
featuring some 50+ artists and guests

during the six shows some fifty different acts
and artists appeared covering diverse music
genres including Rock, Bluegrass, Blues, Indie Pop, Skiffle, Jazz Fusion to Prog Rock.

the-room is based on Later with Jools Holland
and after the launch of last years event,
Paul Wooden drummer with the Rooms resident
band from last year attended the Jools Holland
gig at Somerleyton Hall where he was introduced
to Jools by guitarist Mark Flannigan who had
explained to Jools that the Room was a live version
of his own Later show.
Jools gave Paul and the Room the nod of approval
and a year on it would seem has decided to broadcast “Later with Jools Holland Live”
perhaps the program that inspired the Room has inspired Later we may never know.

Overall last years season at The Room was nothing
sort of a massive success and I have spent most
of the winter replying to people who visited one
or more of last years night, “when is the next
Room event,” so based on the enthusiasm of
this feedback the Room is due back for business
on the 3rd May 2008, with just four evenings
planned this year.

The concept for 2008 is still the same, with a
few changes brought about from last years
experiences, there are mainly two changes
this year, firstly instead of last years resident
band performing each month, it has been decided
to bring in each month a covers/original or all
covers band, although the main point of the night
is to feature original music, some nights have
lasted up to four hours and a covers band helps
to break up the night and provide a party
atmosphere to the end of the night, the other
main change from last year is the introduction
to stage four more than one artist, but a series
of four or five acoustic acts giving a greater scope
of both acts and music styles, this was first tried
on the last night of the 2007 events, when no
less than 7 acts performed on stage four.
